The Department of Tourism (DOT) in partnership with the IT and Business Processing Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) and BPO industries such as Tahche, collaborated for a series of virtual job fairs.
DOT Provides Job Opportunities In Partnership With BPO Industries
“This event was first conducted in September 2020. It was organized to provide job opportunities for those who lost their jobs due to the pandemic. As we move forward and fulfill our mandate providing technical assistance to our affected tourism industry workers, the DOT Project Investment and Evaluation Vision of the Office of Tourism Standards and Regulation is once again conducting this event with wider networks and an additional array of opportunities,” said DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.

Tahche Joins DICT IT-BPM Sector Fair
Tahche Outsourcing Services Incorporated joined the IT-BPM Sector Fair on May 18, 2021. General Manager Amylene Sy represented Tahche as one of the IT BPM sector ambassadors.
The fair equipped fresh graduates, job seekers, and career shifters to become IT-BPM professionals.

IT BPM Sector Advice for Countryside Applicants
Sy gave professional tips to first time IT BPM applicants in the countryside. She mentioned that countryside applicants should have this mindset that they have equal footing with the rest of the candidates who have graduated from universities or have had other educational privileges. Also, she advised that applicants should have at least 5 top priority skills relevant to the job description.
Besides these, she stated that being true and honest are qualities that employers are looking for.
Sy also highlighted the “Star Approach” where applicants can explain their answers in a form of a story.
Sy also advised on “Upskilling” for IT BPM professionals to match the current job requirements.
“The only way to thrive in the IT BPM sector is to learn a new skill,” said Sy.

The Outsourcer’s Update on COVID-19 Vaccines In Cebu
Managing your business overseas is tough especially now, but we are hopeful and thankful for technology used to reduce the harmful effects of the pandemic to the economy.
COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Cebu early in March and were received by health workers first.
Vaccination Stats
The Department of Health Region 7 (DOH-7) confirmed 5,634,789 individuals eligible for vaccination in Central Visayas this year. Their target is to vaccinate 70% in 2021 and 30% in 2022.
The business groups participated in four seminars with vaccine makers and pre-ordered the vaccines Among the vaccines were Sinovac and Moderna.
More than 100 companies signed a deal to secure vaccines.
BPO Companies Secure COVID-19 Vaccines
487,200 doses of AstraZeneca will be arriving on March 11. Meanwhile, BPO companies have also secured AstraZeneca doses ahead for their employees. Other BPO companies have also sought Moderna vaccines as a way of helping their employees. Vaccination is an optional benefit for everyone including employees in the healthcare sector. Unused vaccines from BPO companies will be donated to the government.

Tahche’s General Manager Named as an IT-BPM Industry Ambassador
Here’s good news!
Amylene Sy, General Manager and Business Process Expert, has been selected by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) as one of the IT-BPM Industry Ambassadors. As such, she will provide assistance in promoting the IT-BPM industry, particularly in the countryside, together with DICT and IBPAP.
“I am thrilled to work with relevant industry partners in this role,” said Sy. “It‘s a stepping stone for Tahche to grow and improve its digital footprint in the industry.”
As part of the Marketing and Promotion initiative of the Digital Cities 2025 program, the DICT and IBPAP selected volunteers to act as IT-BPM Ambassadors who will support, strengthen, and sustain the efforts of the DICT and IBPAP in spreading its IT-BPM advocacy to cities outside Metro Manila.
Becoming an Ambassador
To be an ambassador, Sy satisfied the requirement to currently be in a managerial position in the IT-BPM industry with at least a 5-year tenure. She is also a leader who can effectively build and manage stakeholder relationships.

Being one of the IT-BPM Ambassadors, Sy commits to the following:
Act as resource speakers in Industry Awareness Fairs and Industry-Academe events; share her professional journey in IT-BPM as part of an industry marketing campaign; aid in content creation to upscale Filipino talent; and work with DICT and IBPAP to initiate, organize, and bolster IT-BPM initiatives.

The Digital Cities 2025 program supports the transformation of promising locations in the Philippines into buzzing IT-BPM destination hubs and promotes dynamism in the local economic environment. This will be possible with the engagement of IT-BPM industry ambassadors.
According to DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II, “The plan is for industry experts to be ambassadors through various interventions to help reinforce the role of the IT-BPM industry in economic growth.”
DICT continues to provide the 25 Digital Cities for 2025 with much needed support in areas including talent attraction and development, institutional development, infrastructure development, and marketing and promotion. These actions intend to assist the identified localities reach their full potential in view of the government’s vision for countryside development and inclusive growth.

PH Lands 7th Place As Top Offshore Locations For Businesses
Philippines ranking seventh place as the top promising destination for offshore locations in the next three years gives you more reasons to start investing and strengthen existing investments in the country.
This significant conclusion was conducted by Japan-based financial institution—Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
The survey involved 530 Japanese companies in 2020, who all stated that “the confirmed number of foreign direct investment has been steadily rising, and there is huge estimation of competent human resources” in the Philippines.
Growing Demand For Office Spaces for Offshore Locations
Despite prolonged work-from-home arrangements caused by the pandemic, there is still a bigger demand for office spaces in different regions of the country.
The Japanese companies also believe the Philippines as “good for risk diversification to other countries.”
Aside from PH, countries including Vietnam, Thailand, China, the United States, Indonesia, India, Myanmar, Mexico and Malaysia were also chosen as the top offshore business locations.
The Philippines along with Malaysia and Myanmar was “consistently popular” among Japanese manufacturers.
Philippines As An Engineering Outsourcing Hub
The Philippines gained fifth rank for electrical equipment and electronics and eighth rank for automobiles and general machinery in terms of industry.
Japanese firms saw a growth potential of the local market, a sizable domestic market af present and affordable labor as factors for business expansion.
The survey also stated that the Philippines is also an attractive investment next to Indonesia because of its existing firms aiming to increase production and sales at 59.5 percent.
Japanese companies specializing in transportation equipment and metal products also prefer the Philippines because of the high profit rate.
The survey also concluded that the Philippines was the top 9 country perceived as the most profitable offshore location by Japanese firms.

Progress Behind Philippines’ Vaccination Plans
Philippines approved the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of three vaccines included in the Emergency Use Listing (EUL) procedure of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Among these vaccines include Pfizer & BioNTech, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson Janssen which have also been recently approved for EUA in the U.K. and U.S.
Cities and provinces around the country have secured a budget to receive the vaccines intended for priority groups, Local Government Units (LGUs) and companies.
Among the priority groups include the health workers and soldiers wherein cost of vaccination is shouldered by the government.
Philippine vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said that Pfizer vaccines will arrive in the 3rd quarter of 2021 and while waiting, the Department of the Health (DOH) together with the Philippine Pharmacists Association (PPhA) conducted a joint meeting on the role of pharmacists in the vaccination program.
Pasig, which is one of the country’s major cities occupied by BPO companies is the first to have an approved vaccine plan by WHO.
Top BPO companies Alorica and Concentrix also procured AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine.
Private sectors have also secured doses from the local government unit.
